Main issue at stake

“Rwanda’s agriculture sector is undergoing a great change from subsistence towards modern commercial agriculture. Adoption of modern agricultural technologies through TVET Skills development and job creation is an indispensable strategy for Rwanda to reach a sustainable economy by boosting agricultural productivity and obviously cutting off food shortage”.

However, unemployment and underemployment is still a prominent factor. With strategies like the NST 1 and the Private Sector Development and Youth Employment Strategy (PSDYES), the Government of Rwanda is promoting skills development and the creation of off-farm jobs. The bilateral Economy and Employment Promotion Programme (Eco-Emploi) as part of the priority area “Sustainable Economic Development” of the Rwandan-German Development Cooperation is supporting these efforts.

Partnership with the GIZ

In line with the government efforts; Electricom in partnership with GIZ have embarked on an idea to bring modern agricultural technologies to produce affordable quality food obtained through the adaptation of local means in Irrigation/hydroponic and green roof model, through the process many youth will be equipped with the right skills that will enable them to qualify for jobs in the sector or even create jobs for themselves along the production chain
